TECHNOLOGY NEWS: 'Spam king' kills family after escape from jail

A "HARMLESS" email spammer killed his wife and child in a murder-suicide just one week after escaping from a minimum-security jail.
Eddie Davidson was named the "spam king" for his multimillion-dollar business of covering the tracks of unsolicited marketing emails – a service that earned him as much as $US3.5 million ($3.6m) per client.
Davidson last week escaped from a minimum security prison in Colorado, where he was serving a 21-month sentence for falsifying email identification.
He then murdered his wife and three-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself, the Associated Press reported.
At Davidson's sentencing last year, the judge said he was not a flight risk or a danger to others.
On the day he escaped from Florence Federal Correctional Complex, Davidson's wife Amy Hill rang police and said her husband had forced her to help him break out, the AP said.
Several days later Davidson reportedly lured his family to a meeting and forced his way into their car.
According to a police statement filed by his teenage daughter, Davidson drove them back to their house in Bennett, southwest of Denver.
He then got out of the car and shot Ms Hill, his teenage daughter and his three-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself.
The teenager, whose identity has not been revealed, said she survived by running away.
Her statement was taken by police after she was rushed to hospital.
A seven-month-old boy in the back seat of the car, whose identity has also been kept secret, was unharmed.
A US Marshals spokesman said authorities did not know where Davidson got the gun. He said they were also investigating Ms Hill's involvement with the escape.
Davidson's spam operation ran from 2003 to 2006, with millions of unsolicited emails sent out to promote company stock.
He shares the "spam king" nickname with another convicted spammer, Robert Soloway, who was sentenced to 47 months in prison last week.
The US Federal Bureau of Prisons website still lists Davidson's status as "ESCAPE" and location unknown.
